Sterilization Drive, January 2010 Thank you to all our Pug Lovers who responded to our appeal |
|
May I say this is beyond amazing. When this lady contacted FORA for help, we were discussing the logistics of it all when she told me there were NINE Pugs that needed sterilization. I was absolutely overwhelmed as we took in more than 170 dogs over the festive season, all who needed to be sterilizsed before these PUGS!! I knew I had to find help somewhere - and who better to call than Cheryl, the Pugtivist, who rallied the troops I thank you all for this wonderful act of kindness and making a difference. Regards Patti/FORA |

Margaret Estimated age, 7 years |

This is Margaret who was collected from a rescue organization who did not have the funds to pay for her medical needs. Margaret has had a hard life. She had clearly been used for breeding purposes. Margaret was taken to our Pug Rescue Vets Dr Coleman and Dr Engelbrecht where she was operated on the following day. Margaret had a hernia in the groin area where her uterus was pushing through repaired, she also had to have a full hysterectomy, had her teeth cleaned and she is being treated for demodex mange. Due to the donations we receive we have been able to give Margaret a second chance. |

Choppy & Dexter Estimated ages, 11 & 9 years |
|
Choppy (left) and Dexter (right), their estimated ages were 11 and 9 when they came to Pug Rescue. Their owners emigrated and left them with the gardener who absconded. The property was purchased as a business and the new owners were not able to keep them and requested assistance from Pug Rescue. The area that they were kept in had no grass, no blankets and the soil was damp. Dexter adored Choppy and would never leave his side. Choppy we discovered was totally deaf due his old age. They were the most adorable senior citizens of the canine world and loved to be loved. After staying at Pug Rescue for five months, sleeping in a warm, clean bed and receiving so much love and attention Choppy was diagnosed with lung cancer and had to be put to sleep after intensive care at the Pug Rescue vet and after all medical options were exhausted. He was abandoned by his owners but Pug Rescue loved him dearly and he died in the arms of someone who adored him. Dexter, his faithful mate remains at Pug Rescue and is not available for adoption! Due to the generous donations we receive we were able to give Choppy the treatment he needed to remain comfortable. |

Smudge & Petula Estimated ages, 2 years |
|
A Good Samaritan took them in but was not able to keep them. This was brought to the attention of Pug Rescue in Gauteng and without hesitation two crates were flown to Cape Town and the girls were collected and put back on a flight to Johannesburg where Pug Rescue collected them and they could feel safe and secure until homes were found for them. They were sterilized and inoculated and have both found wonderful loving homes in Johannesburg. Donations we received were able to help these girls find loving homes in Gauteng. |

Peggy Estimated age, 6 years |
|
Peggy was emaciated and a little wild when she came to rescue. Peggy was fed four small meals a day and slowly started gaining weight and started calming down once she felt secure. Today she is a very happy pug and full of confidence. Her three puppies have found wonderful homes. Due to the generous donations we receive we were able to help Peggy and her puppies. |

Lindi Estimated age, 7 years |
|
Lindi had a massive tumour in the anal area. There were some customers at the practice who wanted to adopt her but they were not prepared to pay the cost for removing the tumour. Pug Rescue collected her from Sasolburg and immediately took her to the Pug Rescue Vet, she had the tumour removed the next day and fortunately it was benign. Lindi had another operation a month later to remove further growths. Lindi is still under medical supervision and will only be available for adoption when she has a clean bill of health. Lindi's veterinary costs has been R3’000 at welfare rates to date. Due to the generous donations that Pug Rescue receives Lindi was able to undergo the operation and can continue receiving medical care. |
