Pugsley's story;

Pugsley was handed in to a veterinary clinic in Johannesburg to be put to sleep as the other dogs attack him. The vet discussed Pug Rescue with the owners and they agreed to surrender him to us. Pugsley went straight to our Pug Rescue veterinarians at Rynfield Veterinary Hospital where after x-rays it was discovered that he has disc degeneration between discs T11 and T13.

Pugsley was spending a lot of time sleeping and being inactive and therefore the decision was made to take him to Dr Tanya Grantham from Animal Health and Hydro in Benoni for an evaluation. The conclusion was that Pugsley had to become active to ensure that he did not have further muscle loss and that the nerves could "wake up" and send messages to his legs. It is important to note that Pugsley is not incontinent and therefore it was not a decision to put him to sleep but rather to give him the care he deserved.

Dr Tanya Grantham fell in love with Pugsley and saw his determination to do his exercises even if it was for his snack at the end of it.

Pug Rescue SA is grateful to Dr Grantham for treating Pugsley as a charity case and therefore there is no charge for his treatments for as long as he needs them - this is a major saving for us!
